Creating a Kickstarter Brand People will Love

Your brand is the heart and soul of your business.

Branding is the beautiful art of creation wherein lies the power and prestige of success. This is the secret.

What does your brand say?

Think carefully when crafting your campaign. Products push sales but branding builds success. How do you convey the essence of your company, your vision and your creation to the world?

It is this that truly transforms invention.

“People don’t buy for logical reasons. They buy for emotional reasons.” – Zig Ziglar

Building a better mousetrap doesn’t rapture the attention and rally the forces. Without such storied allure all too many ideas die a dreadful death.

Innovation need imagination in order to sell.

Wozniak without Jobs was just another smart guy.

Kickstarter and the world are littered with unfortunate examples of this common occurrence. Innovators pour their souls into success and creating killer products only to see dust degrade their precious work.

Sell yourself. Sell your vision.

Who are your ideal customers?

As an engineer and aspiring inventor I love making stuff. Tinkering and transforming ideas into physical products is a powerful driving force in the lives of ideators.

But where does it get you?

Do you have a garage full of awesome which no one seems to desire?

Before building true innovation attempt to unlock the meaning. We all too often get caught up in the excitement and forget the fundamentals.

The best way to enact change is to create a viable business around it. In order to succeed you need customers.

Who are your ideal customers? Seriously.

As appealing as it is to simply launch a product and pray for sales it’s a foolhardy approach.

This strategy leads to large failures and hurt hearts as founders flounder and wonder where they went wrong. I speak from experience. These failures and wisdom imparted to me by many a successful entrepreneur spit in the face of my old beliefs.

Advice is so hard to heed but so critical to consider.

What are your favorite Kickstarter campaigns of all time? Favorite companies? Products?

All of these similarly successful entities have one thing in common…your undying support. But why is that? What makes us feel attracted to particular products?

Branding. Branding builds connections with customers and creates a sense of ownership and belonging in ideas. It is no wonder one feels so unique, so special when sporting the latest and greatest.

People want to feel important. On a basic level our egos gravitate towards those actions, ideas and products which most satisfy us.

“Please all, and you will please none.” -Aesop

In your campaign you must satisfy backers to build a base of power and succeed. Your product, your video and your messaging must connect with customers. Try to create a cult. Connect with consumers on an emotional level by positioning your product as designed for them.

Build a Bond of Trust

There is nothing worse than a false friend. Faking it can never make it.

The truest, strongest way to build a connection with prospective customers is to create a sense of rapport. Without trust try selling someone anything…it ain’t gonna happen. You need to have basic levels of understanding in order to order.

This is one of the biggest problem products, marketers and media get wrong.

“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.” -Albert Einstein

We hate deceit.

How many politicians push the needle for you? Probably very few. These leaders look upon individuals as mere votes and act in any way necessary to secure their success. This is the antithesis of awesome.

Backers are not a bank account but fans, friends, and loyal lovers of your mission.

Put personality into your campaign. Do not be a dull, dreadfully boring business building something lame. But don’t fake funny either. People can see straight through forced familiarity and respond poorly.

By being yourself and baring all for backers to see you gain instant credibility in the eyes of audience and strengthen bonds of business building trust.

Almost nothing trumps seeing startup founders fighting for what they believe. Sharing your story and vision for success sets yourself up as someone to support. People peer into your life and can relate.

Struggles and successes, motivations and methods….all of these create a sense of understanding among fellow creatives and make others feel a part of the excitement.

Takeaways

Who is your product perfect for? Who can you help? Relate your message as if telling a tale to these people. A simple conversation calling out to them with your mission, methods and motivations will strengthen support and fuel followers of your company. Show yourself and share in the journey with your backers to build a sense of community, unity and strength.

Let the battle begin.
